In most cases, bike sharing is built around short trips to and from mass transit, or short trips within a relatively small area.

Bike sharing should be as useful to a transportation system — to a city — as it can possibly be, and that means we should use it for short trips, long trips, medium trips, extremely long trips, work trips, pleasure trips, exercise trips, and every possible reason under the sun, imagined and otherwise.

    That’s all fine and good, but you have to start somewhere. I get tired of people that would sacrifice the good for their ideal perfection. Bike sharing as it exists today is a good start. Even if it doesn’t grow beyond where it is today, it’s still a good thing to have. Period. The End.
