PUBLIC Bikes Euro-Style Commuters

PUBLIC Bikes are Euopean styled commuter bikes coming out of San Francisco, with prices from about $650-$1200 complete. Many of the bikes feature matching fenders and racks, along with an upright riding position like the folks of Copenhagen are so fond of. As part of their introduction PUBLIC is holding an essay contest with the winner receiving a new complete bike in their size—just send in 200 words about how you’d take the PUBLIC crew for a 1-hour ride in your hometown to enter.

In Albuquerque, the trails that begin near the Rio Grande Zoo and BioPark, meandering along the euphemistically named Tingley Beach, run parallel to the river and stretch northward for many miles, emptying out at the rural and scenic village of Coralles, where auto’s are required to travel at or near twenty-five mph’s, and where the roadside abuts small ranchettes populated by goats, llama’s, sheep, horses, and geese. From there we would make our way east to the foothills of the Sandia mountains that loom over the city, and that provide beautiful bike trails that, again, run from the northermost edges of the city to the south, where the secrets of the early atomic age are still said to be buried
