PDW Dios Thronous EVA Foam Saddle

The Dios Thronous saddle is unlike any I’ve seen before, primarily made with injection molded EVA foam. This is the same stuff Crocs are made of, meaning the saddle is waterproof, scuff resistant and relatively lightweight. The durometer of the foam is easily tuned during production, in this case to make a comfortable saddle as tested by the PDW crew and friends. Portland Design Works is appropriately located in the Pacific Northwest where rain can be an every day reality, and saddles with a bag over them is a common sight at the bike rack. No one likes a soggy saddle. The Dios Thronous cannot absorb water — leave it out in the rain, wipe it off, go ride. Available for $40 in red, black, white or neon green by the end of next week at www.ridepdw.com. We have a couple of samples in the house and first impressions are good — it feels firm but not rubbery, and is neither tacky nor slippery so it should be easy on your pants and behind. We will ride them hard and put them away wet for a couple of months before reporting back.

I wonder if that untrimmed seam on the side of the saddle might cause irritation?

Suprising as it may sound, I’m actually enthusiastic about this new saddle. Now if they’d offer it in Yellow they’d have a pre-order for sure.

I’m considering this saddle for my polo bike. How about an updated review?

I bought one, at first I was concerned that it would be too narrow, but I have to say I’m happy with it so far.
