Merckx UMX-S

Eddy Merckx Cycles had the $1200 complete UMX-S single speed bike on display at Interbike, showing a bit of classic steel heritage with a modern twist. The bike has dropped seatstays and svelte steel tubing throughout, but in a departure for most urban single or fixed frames doesn’t use track ends but vertical dropouts and an eccentric bottom bracket for chain tension. My personal single speed mountain bike uses a similar arrangement, allowing for easy wheel changes without having to readjust the chain tension for every flat, and keeping the rim in the same place every time for proper brake setup. If you’ve always wanted a steel Merckx track frame this one may or may not fulfill your lust for the legendary name.

Oh yeah. That’s the stuff. Love the Merckx stripes.

I think the bike looks great and is a great price. Why do so many people seem to hate it?
