Everyday Bicycling by Elly Blue

“Everyday Bicycling,” the latest pocket-size book from Portland bike blogger Elly Blue, is a handy little guide to feeling comfortable in the saddle and on the road. In under 130 pages, Blue takes readers from taking the bike out your front door on through to the basics of bike life, how to carry anything on a bike, and approaching advocacy. A straightforward and easy read, “Everyday Bicycling” is a succinct primer on the basics of cycling. Blue takes cycling and makes it digestible to cyclists and would-be’s in a friendly, laid-back tone. Absent of any authoritarian voice, this is the book I wish I had years ago, when getting acquainted with the elements of cycling meant drifting through online forums, bike shops and co-ops, gleaming bits and pieces of the big picture over time. “Everyday Bicycling” is comprehensive without being daunting, an ideal read for anyone who wants to learn how to integrate cycling into their lives, or just brush up on the basics. I’m looking forward to giving this book to a few tenderfoot riders on my gift list this holiday season. Available for $10 from Microcosm Publishing.
