CharRie’s Café Goes on European Bike Tour

charrieCoffee and bikes. Bikes and coffee. They make a great pair, and Rie Sawada is taking this dynamic duo on the road for a bike tour across Europe.

Sawada is the cheerful barista at the helm of CharRie’s Café, a mobile bike café serving hand-brewed coffee that got its start in Japan a few years ago. Back in 2010, Sawada set up shop outside Circles bike shop in Nagoya, Japan, on Valentine’s Day; it was the start of something beautiful. Since then, she has served coffee to thousands of cyclists at music festivals, bike events and on the street. Now she is making her way across Europe, with a stop in Lusanne to help caffeinate the contingency of couriers at the Cycle World Messenger Championships with a special blend of beans from MALKI COFFEE out of Handa, Japan and Blaue Bohnen Kaffeerösterei in Berlin.

Rie began her tour Berlin, outfitted with a custom Hunter Bicycles café bike, designed to deliver comfort during her long rides and coffee to the people she meets along the way. Her 4000km tour will take her and through Nice, Barcelona and ultimately Peniche, Portugal. www.charriescafe.com
