Bicycle Music Festival

The 6th annual Bicycle Music Festival will be going down in San Francisco on the 23rd of this month. We all love live music, but would your experience be enhanced if the music was powered by people riding bikes? I don’t know, but the ability to practice what you preach is pretty rad and this festival certainly carries through with the idea of “Pedal Power”. Participants get to generate power for the sound system by riding bikes hooked up to generators, but there are also pedal-powered smoothies and ice cream and everything, EVERYTHING, is brought to the staging area via bikes. That includes the stage, sound system, instruments, personnel, musicians, etc.

According to the organizers,

The mission of the Bicycle Music Festival is to promote sustainable culture in general and bicycle culture in particular, by physically engaging and immersing our community in free, participatory, bicycle-based music and arts events.

Check out the site for all the event specifics and follow along on Facebook.

this is so epic. especially because all of the transport is done by bike. it really shows that we don’t need big rigs. ginger ninja’s pleasant revolution is a great example.
