Vetta Solar Flare Computer
It’s not only a nice idea to think “green,” it can be downright beneficial at times, too. For example, Vetta’s new Solar Flare cycling computer uses a traditional battery, but also draws power from the sun. So your battery will last longer, saving you money and keeping it out of the landfill.

“Visit http://www.vetta.com for more info.”
Were it only true. The Vetta site (which could be better written in a number of areas) contains no info on the Solar Flare light — which does sound like a cool thing. My commuter bike spends a lot of time sitting in the sun. Of course, if you have to use the quick-steal mounting — oops, I mean the “quick-release” — that sort-of eliminates the on-bike charging. (Which raises the forever-question: why can’t bike accessories be made more theft-resistant.) But without that elusive “more info” from vetta.com you can’t tell whether this is well executed, or just another swell idea…
Still… a solar charger makes a lot more sense than the what-were-they-thinking USB chargers. I mean, my computer has enough things to do, related to actual “computing,” to waste time or energy charging batteries. If you have a computer, you’ve got AC power. (And if you don’t have AC, you surely would not use precious computer battery power to charge your bike light.)
