In life, bigger is not always better. Likewise, the most complex bike parts aren’t always the best. When it comes to cycling computers, I really just want to know what time it is, how far I’ve gone and how fast I’m going. Aside from that, I only ask that the computer work reliably and that the battery last a long time so I don’t have to reprogram it anytime soon.
After testing the Pathfinder Wireless and being reasonably happy with its performance, I was curious as to how well one of their basic computers would workâactually, I was betting that it would suit my needs just fine. And lo and behold, I was right.
The $17 RT Classic is just about as basic as you can get these days. The computer has just two buttons and five functions. It attaches with a tool-free mounting strap which is hard to describe but easy to install. Speaking of installation, I like Vetta’s easy to read instructions and the handy “installation spacer” that helps you precisely position the magnet for optimum performance. They include a couple spare parts, extra zip ties and even some clear (save for the Vetta logos) adhesive vinyl to hold the wires in place without scratching your bike’s paint.

I also have a very basic Schwinn bike computer that I bought at Meijer for $20-25. It has lasted for two years now without a change of batteries and is really simple to install and use. Sometimes the cheap equipment really pays off.
Hey Jeff do the new vetta’s come with a stem mount? Also any updates on the carbon shifter clamps?
I think the mount can be used on stem or handlebar. Crabon shifter clamps… Don’t know about that.
