Urban Outfitters Classic Wood Bike Basket

One of our regular readers just sent us a link to this Urban Outfitters Classic Crate Wood Bike Basket. But he wasn’t overwhelmed by the beautiful design—he was shocked and dismayed. Because in Cole Bates’ estimation, Urban Outfitters has copied his original design, the Bates Crates Custom Porter Crates.

To add insult to injury, Bates claims that Urban Outfitters had previously contacted him about selling his crates, but determined that his wholesale price was too high. Cole is not the only one accusing Urban Outfitters of such offenses recently.

It will be interesting to see what effect, if any, the coverage on popular websites like The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, Regretsy and CBS News will bring about, even as Urban Outfitters categorically denies the allegations on their blog.

Right when I woke up this morning my girlfriend showed me this. You can find a lot of stuff that has been well marked up but this is just one.
Urban is just making things worst everyday.

This is a quote from a this article under the comments by someone named Emma

“”Exactly. They also resell things for too much. Like Cavallini wrapping paper, which can be purchased from Cavallini & Co. online for $4.50 a sheet. How much is it at Urban Outfitters? That’s right, it’s “a poster” for $24.00. Oh, and in small print they say it can also be used as wrapping paper. Compare and save.

I bought one of those Crates from Bates himself back in CHI nearly two years ago..it still resides on my girlfriend’s old Schwinn Suburban, “Brown Betty”. One of my favorite features of the Crate is the custom holder for a wine bottle..I see the UrbOut version has one as well. Suspect at the very least..

24 dollars. Wow, I thought $4.50 was too much.
