Here’s another one for our 2009 Singlespeed Road Bikes list… Torker is an up and coming brand set to make waves by offering one of the most affordable singlespeed road bikes around. The U-District retails for just $349 complete. It’s available in sizes 44-56, so short people might want to take notice. Tall people, don’t be fooled by the smaller seat tube measurement. A 54cm frame has a 58cm top tube, which is what our 6′2″ editor would ride. Features include a chromoly steel frame, flip-flop hub and rack mounts.

Up-and-coming brand? Those of us that grew up during the first wave of BMX are very familiar with the name.
Im short and Im looking for a lightweight single speed, one that easy to carry up my apartment stairs. Anyone know how much this weighs?
I have no first hand idea of what it weighs, but before someone claims some ridiculous weight of 16lbs or something let me say that sub $400 singlespeeds tend to be in the 22-24lb range or so, far lighter than a sub $400 anything-else bike.
The U-District handles well and is comfy. 22-24 lbs sounds about right. That’s my legs and butt in the catalog picture. I’ve loved Torker since the BMX glory days, so when my BMX friends over at Seattle Bike Supply asked me to take some pics riding it I couldn’t resist.
I’m with angle on this one, since when is Torker up-and-coming? I guess I am just showing my age, but I’m not really that old… I think.
Dang! There goes any chance of getting over $300 for my crappy 80’s era frame, fixie conversion!
Torker is back — recently resurrected under the Seattle Bicycle Supply umbrella (home of Redline). But, they’ve actually been around since the 1970s: http://www.torkerusa.com/history.html
The brakes calipers on the U-District are reversed (front in back and vice versa).
Ditto on what angle said. Torker had been around for years. Then Seattle Bike Supply brought back the name ala Haro’s parent company and Masi.
I have one of these babies and would say they weigh about 20 lbs. It’s probably the best fixie you could but for the money. Even though u have to buy a cog.
Is this a good bike? its at my local shop and i was thinking about getting it. Is it comfortable?
I just bought this bike. I am 5′11″ and the 50cm is actually very comfortable. It’s a nice ride. And it’s pretty cheap compared to the other bikes I saw at the shop.
I just bought this bike about a month ago and I love it. This is my first track bike and for the price of it you get a decent light bike. I got the 50cm and I’m 5′3″ tall. It weighs about 24 lbs.
I just bought one and no more than a few minutes another guys was buying one. I think the price tag of $250 at dennison’s schwinn in East L.A.is making this bike fly off the showroom.
I’m new to these bikes anyone know of some upgrades that should be done? I will be using it for riding around town for exercise.
Im considering in making this my first fixie, Im 6′0 and considering in getting a 56cm frame. Would that be suitable for me??
There’s something almost undefinable about riding this bike. It’s really fun to just tear around on, partly cause there are no gears to worry about, plus the steel frame and low price means I’m not worried about potholes, cracks etc. Think the bike would work fine on single track too!
My LBS weighed the 2011 model at 25.7 lbs.
Jonathon a 56cm sounds about right for u man I just ordered one I pick mine up tomorrow im 5′10 and the shop ordered me a 52cm. I’m excited about the bike this is my first fixie
As soon as I seen this bike at Roy’s Cyclery in Claremont California I wanted it I love the look of it and the test ride sold me on it
