The Topeak Brass Superchuck is a replacement chuck for a floor pump. Its unique feature is a cool little pressure release valve that makes it easier to remove the chuck from the valve after inflating the tire. Topeak stopped manufacturing these years ago, but the good folks at Wheelfine Imports bought the remaining stock and sent us one to try out.
According to Wheelfine, “When you press the little release valve, you are bleeding off the air in the pump’s hose, nothing from the inner tube. That’s what makes it so much easier to remove as you discovered. It only takes one ruined valve stem on a nice expensive tubular to really appreciate it.”
Much to my surprise, it works better than I expected. You don’t lose much (if any) more air than you would releasing a regular chuck, and it’s definitely a bit easier to remove than my very similar chuck without a pressure release valve. My only question is, why did Topeak stop making these? Maybe time will tell…
The Topeak Brass Super Chuck comes complete with mounting hardware and a Schraeder adapter. It retails for $27.95 including shipping from www.wheelfineimports.com.

It looks like an Amazon seller has 2 of these for $7.63. Get ‘em while they last! http://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Brass-Super-Chuck-SV/dp/B0017RLO8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1292529769&sr=8-1
These are only marginally better than the old Silca pump heads. Still a pain to get off, especially on valve stems that are not smooth.
