The Bike Design Project – Voting Now Open

Voting begins today for The Bike Design Project, a design competition which partners five design firms with American bike builders to create the “Ultimate Urban Utility Bike.” The competition includes teams from Chicago, New York, Portland, San Francisco and Seattle. The winning design will be announced on August 4th and the winning design will be manufactured by Fuji Bikes in 2015.

    I like some of the integrated features of the NY and Seattle rides, but I wish they would have provided price estimates and weight specs.
    If one of them was going to cost $1,500 each after production it wouldn’t deserve a vote (3D-printed Titanium can’t be cheap!). Nor would a bike that weighs 40lbs due to integrated racks and electronics.
    But I’m sure Fuji has reserved the right to tweak the designs to make them hit a “price point”…
