Canadian bike manufacturer Steelwool has unleashed their highly anticipated Polo Wheelsets onto the public. The main thing about these wheels is that with 48 spokes, a street-hockey ball used in bike polo can not pass through the spaces between the spokes. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re brutishly strong, so they should survive almost any manner of crashing.
Available as wheelsets only, the first 30 sets feature 48 black DT Swiss Champion spokes and custom 700c deep dish rims with machined brake surfaces. The emerald-green Steelwool branded hubs are fixed/free and sport laser etched-polo logos, and come with spacers for 120mm or 130mm spacing. Wheelsets retail for $320.

While I totally love the idea, I just can’t justify buying $300 wheels to have mallets swung at them all day. I suppose if you’ve got it, more power to you. Either way, it’s cool seeing a market develop out of polo.
Milwaukee Bikes has had a set for a quite a while and I believe you can buy the hubs separately.
