Skid Bikes from Korea

Skidbikes Seoul KoreaSkid Bikes is a fixed gear bike shop in Seoul, which we learned about via the Skidbikes blog, formerly published as the Cranky blog. They’re one of the best places to find all the latest and greatest in Korea, stocking Milwaukee, Cinelli, Brooklyn, Velocity, etc.

  • I’m actually a big fan of skid bikes. LSD, pardon my lack of a positive experience and kind words to say, is a bunch of seoul hipsters looking for their niche in the scene. All their bikes were far too expensive and overpriced. Sure, the quality was relatively nice, but I wasn’t willing to buy a bicycle so spend $2k on a bicycle I was only going to keep for a year (my time here in seoul).

Skid bikes, on the otherhand, was awesome to work with. They offered me the cheapest prices I had seen in the entire city. At that, the guy gave me a 15 % discount for paying in cash, so I ended up paying less than the US MSRP.

There’s a shop in hongdae at hongik university that I saw stocked with over-the-top fixed bikes. I’m sure it’s the same story as LSD, though.

  • I think Skid Bikes definitely has a good mechanical knowledge of bikes and I like their array of components more. Maybe not as much stuff as LSD however what they did have appealed to me more. I asked them if they ever meet up at Banpo bridge park (the fixed gear hang out spot that I know) and they said they were more about riding than doing tricks which I can respect. Some of these guys can ride backwards and do spins for days but can’t ride in traffic for shit. I also checked out Dice (Hapjeong Station) which is more of a trick bike store where the owner speaks very good English, and Byclipse which specializes in volume bikes and is smack dab in the middle of Hongdae if your all about being seen in the street scene. But to recap for any fixed gear mechanical problems skid bikes is the best I have yet to encounter.
