I don’t have a television, but I’ve heard these Schwinn ads are airing.

Very nice spot. Whoever produced the ad did a great job of conveying the message “Riding a bike is easy and fun” – with no words.
Agreed. Very well done.
Kinda weird to see that classic looking Schwinn with a derailleur.
I wish I had a magic bell that turned cellphones into puppies. I’d never be hungry again!
Seriously though, good ad…
Great spot. Too bad it propagates that stupid behavior of pedaling with your arches. Argh.
I believe this is a new campaign by Schwinn as they do have new website: http://www.rideschwinn.com/ found at main front page of schwinn.com
This an interesting commercial, because it say that schwinn is comfortable enough that biking is gaining enough main stream attention to warrant spending the thousands of dollars to air it. This advertisement will hopefully get more people out on a bike and will highlight the need for even more and better cycling infrastructure. Pick Robe, I think you meant to say angry in your post, not hungry. Maybe you were feeling hungry when you decided to post. I hope you don’t feel hungry when you hold puppies.
Beautiful! Not a motor vehicle in motion. I’ll be out dealing with the reality shortly.
That puppy does look appetizing – the guy holding seems to think so too. Now I have to go to the store hungry!
Bikes, puppies and ice cream trucks! What more can you ask from a good TV commerical. Saw this a couple of weeks ago. Really pleasant to watch.
This is what I’d expect from a giant corporation with a background of discounting bicycles to the point they were once given away free with the purchase of a stereo system. That’s how Pacific’s management entered the bike biz; then they bought Schwinn our of bankruptcy, rolled it in with other minor brands, tried the brand on skateboards and coolers, and sold it to their current owner, Doral of Canada, a conglomerate of discount store brands.
Schwinn for them is a toy brand. Sure, they’ve got big bucks, and what the hell, they’ll throw some minor juice at the brand this summer. Too bad their vision of bicycling is magical toy play. Not a second spent on health, economy, convenience, or cool personal transportation. And since the brand permeates the mass market discount stores you won’t find many quality Schwinns joining you on the streets this summer.
@pete
wow, that’s a lot of negative sentiment. i was feeling good about biking, ice cream and puppies. after reading your post i now just want to scream into my cell phone.
thanks a lot!
sure those cheapie bikes that schwinn makes now aren’t going to be showing up, but guaranteed that commercial did make me thing, biking in general is truly a release from everything else now in days. I mean if you ride a bike for all those cost effective, and healthy things thats awesome, but don’t forget the joy!
The Schwinn bikes that suck are the Target-targeted models. Their present offerings for bike shops proper aren’t too bad for the pricepoint compared against the competition – see their Cream 3-speed for a great example. Cheaper than an Electra, more stylish than a Globe.
I understand the concerns about “bikes as toys”, but the whole point of this commercial is to pitch bikes to the unconverted masses. A female rider is wearing a helmet and looks like she’s having a blast. That’s a much easier sell than “bikes cut your dependency on oil!” or “bikes keep you fit!” Fun and happiness are less work than fitness or ideological pursuits. So.
what song is playing during the commercial?
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT SONG???? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT AND DUDE ITS A BIKE COMMERCIAL STOP WITH THE NEGATIVITY. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE SAD AND LOOKING FOR THINGS TO HATE WHEN REALLY THE ONLY THING YOU REALLY HATE IS YOURSELF. (BIT OF PSYCHOLOGY FOR YOU RIGHT THERE HAHA) SONG PLEASEEE
I am looking for the commercial for Schwinn bicycles we made in the late 60’s to early 70’s in Maluibu canyon. I was the girl on the bike, and my cousins wrote and sang the music. My uncle produced and sold it to Schwinn. Help me find this PLEASE~ I am almost 60 now and am desperate to show my children who may or may not believe what an adventurous life I’ve lead!
