Resource Revival Bottle Opener

Resource Revival bottle openerIt’s funny that although I live, eat and sleep bike culture, very few of my friends and relatives endeavor to give me bike-oriented gifts. Maybe they assume I’ve got everything, or that I’m too picky to enjoy anything but the finest carbon fiber bits and titanium pieces.

So imagine my surprise when my buddy Dave gave me this Resource Revival bottle opener. I had recently designed some birth announcements for Dave (who happens to be a former Pennsylvania state BMX champ) and he wanted to say thanks. While I already have a handful of bike-oriented bottle openers, this will now be my go-to opener.

Resource Revival was founded in 1994 and is based out of rural Oregon. As you probably guessed they use as many recycled pieces as possible. The bottle opener ($10 msrp) uses recycled chains that have been spotlessly cleaned with mild detergents. The opener works pretty much as well as any other, even though the chain handle isn’t absolutely solid. You can get enough leverage with just the business end of the opener, so the added leverage is just convenient. I’m sure professional bartenders would still prefer something with a solid handle.

Just take your chaintool and push all of the pins to create stiff links. Voila…a rigid handle!

My brother gave me one of these for Christmas. It’s great!

Since most of my beer comes in cans, I don’t really have much use for a bottle opener. This beats a $30 opener with a 15 mil wrench in the other end though. Plus, the uses for old chain is virtually endless. Nice to see someone doing something with them.
