Consider that Ultegra costs somewhere around $1500 when you pay full msrp, and the Brooks swallow is around $200. The $1900 msrp for the bike doesn’t look so bad for such a pretty bike with some higher end components.

Agree name is odd. Agree saddle and group are overkill for this frame. Still, love the classic look. However, for a couple hundred more you can get a much superior, fully lugged, hand painted Rivendell Roadeo with SRAM Force. At the other extreme, you can get a TIG-welded Surly Pacer with Tiagra, which is just as classic-looking, for about $1,000. So it’s hard justifying $1,800 for this Raleigh. I noticed REI sells this Raleigh, so if you really want it it’s sure to be discounted by REI at some point in 2010. If money were no object, instead of this Raleigh I’d get a Cielo Sportif, which I think is the most amazing, classic all-steel production road bike on the market right now, and well worth $1,800 just for the frameset.

Fantastic!! I was hoping that Raleigh would reinstate some of its earlier names. I have a 1989 UK Raleigh Record Ace; white, Reynolds 653, Shimano Sante groupset. I think that this should have had Reynolds 953 tubing. Yes,the crank does look a bit odd on this steel frame but I think it’s a great bike. Just need a blue/grey Road Ace, dark red Sirocco and a black-gold Record Sprint. Oh & a blue/red/yellow/white Team replica.

They should have reigged this to sell at $1200. The Swallow saddle is overkill and 105 would have been more than adequate. Where are the bar end shifters when we need them??

nice bike, but all the black bits should have been silver. I imagine that anyone wanting a modern classic would agree.

Comes with fenders, Brooks Swift and Tiagra; wish it were 105 and had a level top-tube. Fenders are nice, but would it run 32mm tires under fenders?

However, this is the bike most people into road bikes need.

I’ll just keep my 1980 vintage Record Ace, thankyouverymuch. Dia Compe long reach brakes, 27″ wheels, down tube friction shifted 2×6 drivetrain (Raleigh branded der’s).
