So sad when grown men get in trouble for playing games on property they don’t own, after being warned several times.

Seriously. In what world are these guys objects of sympathy?

it wasn’t a typical parking garage. it is literally part of a park and is owned by milwaukee county and run by the parks dept. (so technically the player, i.e. the public, do own it) and it is almost always completely vacant… especially vacant during the hours occupied by the milwaukee bike polo crew.

I’m sure the arrests were a “shock and awe” approach, since they had ignored warnings. Way more impact than just tickets, obviously. I bet they wet their pants when the zip-ties came out. Were the cops power-trippin’? Probably, but it’s a great civic lesson to be on the receiving end of their petty thuggishness, especially for something so minor. It encourages one to meditate on the role of authority in society. I think polo should be played on grass, or in a field.

I’m with Flatty. They were warned. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/lifestyle/81164657.html
“Sheriff’s Capt. Aisha Barkow confirmed the enforcement action and said the players had been warned twice previously that they were trespassing and causing damage to the parking structure near the Milwaukee lakefront. County parks representatives offered two alternate locations for their bike polo matches, she said.”

They even admit to being warned – leaving “for a while” and then returning at a later point when the heat died down so to speak. They were in the wrong and clearly this is the only way the message was going to get across.

ATX DAN-Ahhh yes, bike polo should be played on grass or in a field, unfortunately none are available at the current time because it’s fucking winter and there is fucking snow on the ground everywhere in Milwaukee, trust me, I’m looking at it right now.

Raiyn-yes they were warned several times, but there aren’t really any other places to practice bike polo during the winter in Milwaukee. The parks department did give recommendations for other places to practice. The parks department was also told that these places would not work by the MKE bike polo team. They really had no other place to practice

    @ Adam
Nope. Still no sympathy here. What you meant to say is that there was no other FREE place to practice. The Parks Dept. is liable for anything that happens on that property – meaning that if one of the players gets hurt, or county property is damaged the Parks Dept. not the “Beaver Boys” (lame T&EASGJ reference BTW) would have to pay for it. So unless the Shrimp and White Wine crowd is willing to pony up with some property damage insurance and injury waivers I don’t see using that building in their / your future.

I will krunkle kick Anybody who talks smack on the beaver boys.

“they were warned”?? yes, and the jews were warned to renounce their faith in pre-war europe. serves them right!
This is a county property, which is owned by the people, and it’s intended use is therefore, for the people. this is a miscarriage of justice and everyone involved should be ashamed, and fired. it has little to do with bike pollo, and a lot to do with the overstepping of boundaries that local authorities seem to believe they are entitled to.
and atx dan, nobody gives a shit where or when you think something should be played. if laws were based on what you think “should” this country would suck worse than mexico. this is a free fucking country and if they want to play in the winter, then they play in the goddamn winter.
for what it’s worth I’m a cyclist, but don’t see much of the value in bike polo, and most of these kids look like hipster clowns to me, but to arrest them for using public land is criminal.
