Paul Components at NAHBS

Paul Components was showing off a couple new products at NAHBS. For bike polo enthusiasts, the Twin Pull Lever (shown above in silver, MSRP $63) actuates the front and rear brake at once. A pin can be moved to run as a cantilever/caliper lever or a v-brake lever. The pin can also be removed and the lever flipped over to run it as either a right or a left hand lever. The barrel adjusters are tucked in next to the bar, away from wayward mallets, and the front of the lever is beefed up to survive abuse as well. The total weight is 97 grams. (The Twin Pull lever has also generated considerable excitement among adaptive cyclists.)

The Tall and Handsome seatpost ($102 for the black or silver model and $107 for the polished version) is not the lightest seatpost ever made, but Paul says that it could be, “the sexiest, most secure, and easiest to adjust post you’ve ever used.”

Paul goes on to explain, “I use Brooks saddles exclusively and for me they can never get back enough on the other American-made post, so I made my own. It’s been in development for a couple of years and is rock solid. The head is CNC-machined from 2024 aluminum and is screwed (not pressed) and glued into a precision ground 2024 shaft. The only size available at this time is 27.2mm, and the set back is 26mm. Total length is 360mm. The two fore/aft screw clamp is by far the most secure and easiest to adjust system there is-so we went with that. Weight is… wait for it… 320 grams.”

  • The Twin Pull lever would also be great for an old-school tandem with cantilever brakes plus an Arai drum on the rear. If I ever convert my 1980′s Santana Arriva to upright bars, these levers would be just what I’d be looking for.

  • This looks very similar to Paul’s cross-lever. I’m using a cross-lever on my polo bike because it’s a sturdy lever, but mostly because it is one of the few long pull levers that comes in a 38.1mm bar size. My (38.1mm) riser bars are cut down pretty narrow (beyond the typical 22.2mm brake mount area) to avoid getting caught on other players or getting in the way of a mallet swing. Do you see a possibility that the twin-pull lever might come in a 38.1?
