Nutcase Helmets had their entire affordable line of helmets on display at Interbike 2009, showing off their hardshell skate-style designs to the dealer masses. For city riding and the rough treatment that helmets can receive bumping about from here to there, a hardshell just makes sense as opposed to the usual paper thin plastic shell of road and mountain lids.
The various colorful designs run about $50 each, with kids sized and solid colored helmets going for $10 less. Jeff tried one on and pretended he was Jack Nicholson from Easy Rider for a minute between booth appointments.

Sweet! Only thing I could expect to see that would make them even cooler would be the Easy Rider ones, U.S. Flag (Peter wore) and all gold w/ the black stripe (Jack wore)!

I thought hardshell bike helmets were proven more dangerous, because the shell keeps the foam from crushing and absorbing the impact so you actually get your brains more scrambled. That’s why they disappeared 18-odd years ago.
These helmets pass the same CPSC safety certifications as any other helmet on the market.
