NAHBS 2009 Venue Set… Look Out Indianapolis!

IndianapolisThe word out of Portland is that the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show will be held in Indianapolis, February 28th through March 1st. Apart from having the requisite convention center, here are a few features of the new venue:

  • The governor of Indiana wrote to express his desire to host the show.
  • Indianapolis is within one day’s drive of approximately 100 million people.
  • Indiana is adding $20 million a year to build, expand and link the state’s trail systems, and sees bicycling as a major part of that.
  • Three micro-breweries are situated within two blocks of the expo hall, and the host hotel is right across the road.
  • Indianapolis is regarded as one of the most hospitable in the USA.

I just hope the bike parking is a little better next year than what Portland suffered through this year with people’s locks getting cut and bikes taken by “Securuty” for parking where bikes shouldn’t, which up until that exact moment had been the normal places to park…

Is there any truth to the rumor that its going to be in Indianapolis because Walker was pissed that the Oregon builders had their own show two months ago, and after saying it was going to be in Portland for two years, moved it at the last minute?
Sounds kinda like sour grapes to me.
