T.hey got me in s.i. getting off the ferry. At the top of the hill i stopped at the light, checked for traffic, and proceded. A few blocks later i got pulled over, & issued summuns for disobeying red light. Now i gotta go all the way to dmv court & pay a fine. I been a bike commuter for years. I've always yielded to others. I'm the vivtim of a crime

I had the pleasure of getting ticketed while running a stop sign on a side street in Chicago a few months ago, only because of bad timing, the police suddenly began to back up after I was in the intersection causing him to slam his brakes. After he lumbered out of the SUV(many CPD drive SUVs), I instantly knew his girth mirrored his disdain for cyclists. His partner displayed indifference about the situation. The cost was $45 and four hours of vacay time since I had to go to court. I still ride through stop signs - when it is safe - but with more awareness of police.

It is hard to believe this is not the most commented piece. We are being penalized and fined for saving gallons of fuel and pollution. Do they really want us to be driving cars instead? Yes is the answer because with all the tickets it is cheaper to drive. So lets all add to the gridlock to become part of the problem. Lets feed the greedy oil companies pockets. The police seem to get a real joy out of stopping cyclists thinking they are taking a bite out of crime. They have forgotten what a crime is. Instead of targeting people for doing something good get the ones who are doing harm to others, real criminals, not cyclists.
