One day I was browsing the clearance aisle at Marshalls and found a pair of Mitre trainers (trainers in the UK are what Americans call sneakers). At first I thought they might be indoor soccer shoes, but upon closer inspection they appeared to be casual shoes. Being a bit narrower than skate shoes, and having a relatively smooth tread, I figured they would be good casual shoes for riding with toe clips. For $12, I figured they were worth a try.
It turns out I made a good choice. The soles are fairly thin, but the rubber is thick and firm enough to make for a good pedaling platform. With no real seams to catch on, the rounded toe-box slides into my clips pretty effortlessly.
Off the bike they’re as comfortable as the day is long, and they’re fine for casual running and walking (though if I had to do any real running, I would reach for my Brooks running shoes).
The Bolans retail for about $70, and it appears Mitre has updated the colors and graphics. Visit www.mitre.com for more info.

I got some mitre running shoes on clearance at gabriel bros for $7. They are pretty good for riding but the rubber is on the thin side.
I just picked up a pair of Diesel Vegas that are pretty comfy. They were at my local Goodwill store and I’m not sure what the retail is (probably at least $70+) but I got them for 25 cents
