Misfit Psycles NU Bar

Misfit Psycles is the brainchild of one Peter Keiller from Ontario (that’s in Canada, eh). Misfit specializes in singlespeed mountain bike parts, but their offerings are suitable for a wide range of uses, not the least of which are urban cyclists. Like most bike parts, Misfit products are manufactured in Asia, and Misfit makes no bones about the fact that lots of what they sell is “pretty much the same old shit.” But to be quite honest, it’s pretty good shit—and very affordable.

The NU Bar is a great example of Misfit’s no-nonsense offerings. It’s basically your run-of-the-mill mountain bike handlebar. Flat, black, aluminum with a 25.4mm clamp diameter. It weighs in at a respectable 253g, which isn’t light by weight-weenie standards, but for $22 who’s complaining?

What I like best about the NU Bar is the 15° of sweep (the amount the bar is bent back). It just feels natural, and the 600mm width is pretty well spot on, too. Since this is on a bike meant for commuting and bike polo, I may trim the width down an inch or so, but having a fairly wide bar makes for lots of control and good leverage while climbing or sprinting.
