Microshift Top Mount 9 and 10 Speed Thumbshifters
Ever since I first got a pair of Suntour thumbshifters some 15+ years ago, I’ve been hooked. To this day, my only geared bicycles sport top mount thumbshifters in friction mode — perfect shifts every time, even if they aren’t the fastest as compared to modern indexed trigger and STI systems. For the past few years the only thumbshifter options readily available were either very inexpensive plastic models or conversion kits for bar-end shifter systems that relegated to cyclists in-the-know. Microshift has been quietly making thumbshifters that strongly resemble the widely heralded Suntour XC Pro shifters of the early 1990s for a few years now, with 8-, 9- and new 10-speed Shimano compatible versions now available. The 22.2mm clamp fits mountain bars, and the shifters are switchable from indexed to friction and back for when your shifting gets chunky. They aren’t particularly inexpensive at around $120 per pair, but they are at least out there in current production.
