Among the 9-5 business commuters that I know it’s been a common request for panniers that can be taken into the meeting room without looking out of place, yet that still perform as needed on the bike. Michaud à vélo has introduced the Executive Panniers, a combination of two panniers that snap together off the bike, and feature a shoulder strap, laptop sleeve and plenty of room for your pens and paper to go along with. And of course, room to carry your change of clothing to and from work in the other compartment. The outside of the bags are long wearing ballistic nylon, with a waterproof storm cover included for when you get caught out with a computer in tow. These panniers aren’t cheap at $330 per pair, but they are clearly aimed at the upscale commuter not likely to scoff at such a price.

Oh, they are going to sell A LOT OF THESE. Maybe 3 or 4 sets?
Honestly — Nashbar has a suit bag that you can snap up for around $50 on sale — $330? Really? They look heavy as fluck too.
Fail.
Well then i guess i’m one of the only 3 or 4 suckers in the world to have fallen for them! To be honest, i didn’t actually buy the pair. I just bought the leisure one which set me back 105 GBP (approx 150 bucks) from a shop in London. It’s not that heavy at all and it’s got a clever racket pocket on the front so when i’m playing squash during my lunch hour, or tennis at the weekend, I don’t need to bring a separate bag. I’ve also used it on a couple of short trips abroad and got rid of my old Tumi that was falling apart anyway. Basically it saved me having to buy another travel bag too
Apart from that, they’re pretty smart looking, with a nice purple lining on the inside. Much nicer than the usual shitty panniers that look naff and are awkward to carry. A pass with flying colours as far as i’m concerned! Esp in a world where embryonic, novice cyclists are forking out a couple of grand on bikes they’re not remotely qualified to ride!
