Marin Fairfax SC6

The serious commuter market has matured in short order in the United States, with a number of companies offering bikes more suited to North American tastes and needs. After a year-long rebuild Marin was recently relaunched under new management, with a refreshed 2014 line including the flagship Fairfax SC6 commuter. For those replacing a car, or significantly reducing wear and tear through bike commuting, a $2000 bike can make perfect sense. The aluminum frame and carbon fork have full rack and fender mounts, with almost a mountain-bike position ideal for heads up navigating through traffic. Hydraulic disc brakes do the all-weather stopping, and an 11-speed Shimano Alfine hub does the all-weather shifting. A front Dynamo hub powers the Supernova E3 Pro 2 lighting system for early morning or late night rides. I’ve got to say it looks good too, a nice departure from the Dutch-styled or cruiser styled hybrids so often sent to market.
