Light Lane Concept

light lane conceptA reader named Steve brought this Light Lane concept to our attention. Dustbowl is a design blog produced by the Altitude design firm. Designers Alex Tee and Evan Gant think that using lasers to project a bike lane around a cyclist could have a profound impact the rider’s safety.

  • i love the idea, but i would be worried that motorists would be so confused and intrigued by the traveling bike lane they wouldn’t even notice the rider and run right over me.

  • thats just another “Double Parking Lane”

  • how about sharks with “lasers”?

  • Technically imaginative, but potentially very harmful. This “virtual bike lane” would imply that there is a full car lane to the left (or right) of the cyclist. A car trying to maneuver with a good understanding of bike lanes could create a very dangerous situation with traffic either oncoming or in the same direction. Also it would look completely incomprehensible with riders 2 abreast or one rider passing another.

  • how about lazer 40′s instead!

  • Interesting, but I would be worried about delivery trucks trying to park in front of me while riding.

  • If it’s only a few feet in front and at the back of the rider, I don’t think it will be mistaken for a parking lane. I like it.

  • What a brilliant idea! I want one.

  • I like it. Will it work if you have a rack on the back of your bike, or will that block the beams? Where do I get One?

  • I love the idea and would like something like it that would work during the day!

My only worry is that *wherever* the cyclist is becomes a bike lane, including down the yellow line. Not all of *us* obey the rules either…

  • I want buy it…where can i buy it??
    I lived in korea
