Urban Velo took a road trip down to Lexington, KY this past weekend. We drank some beer, played lots of polo and met countless cool people. Lexington has a great bike community, and the polo scene is especially strong, with good players and a willingness to make things happen. Their courts are excellent and the event was well-run, with an excess of food and refreshments. Nice job, Lexington! Click here to visit the Flickr gallery.

the black flag bike polo shirt is amazing.
Good pics.
I’m sorry I missed this. I’m going to make it to Lex for a polo event sometime…I swear!
I guess I’m getting old and becoming a stick in the mud, but I just don’t get the “ride a fucking bike” slogan. To my mind, it manages to sound smug, rude, aggressive, and berating all at the same time.
I know “fuck” can be funny. There is that famous skit where the guy talks in a serious announcer tone about all the meanings “fuck” can have. But in this context, there is no humor.
As far as shock value (if the notion still exists these days), who are you trying to shock? I love riding my bicycles, don’t need some yo-yo in a t-shirt telling me to. If I hadn’t yet discovered the joys of bike riding, I doubt seeing this t-shirt on a cyclist would convince me to try. In this imperative only the rude aggressiveness remains, and I would just think he or she is a bit of a self-righteous dick.
In the scheme of things, I realize it’s just a fucking t-shirt. But you guys appear to have a relatively successful site here, and as such have some responsibility to the larger picture. I think you can come up with a wittier, joyful slogan that more of your readers would enjoy wearing.
Fuck you and the bike you rode in on,
Iron Fish
How about, “I love Riding in the City”? or maybe “Ride a friggin’ bike”, or even, “Self-righteous dicks on bikes are still self-righteous dicks”?
@Iron Fish
“smug, rude, aggressive, and berating all at the same time”
Have you ever been to a bike polo tournament?
@Tim
“have you ever been to a bike polo tournament?”
No, and I guess it will stay that way. Thanks for the heads-up.
How about a graphic of a bicyclist with duct tape across his mouth, and “STFUARYB” in small block letters.
“Self-righteous dicks on bikes are still self-righteous dicks”
Now that’s kinda funny. I’d buy a case and hand them out no charge at the bike polo match I just speculated I’d never go to.
Seems to me that the “self-righteous dick” in this case is the narrow-minded jerk telling others how they should express themselves.
