Knog Blinder ARC
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Knog‘s Blinder line of USB rechargeable lights — I’ve reviewed a few over the past couple of years, and have been relying on them for commutes and night rides quite often which says a lot given the number of lights I have in my basement parts collection. For 2014 Knog has upped the ante with the Blinder ARC with longer runtimes and up to 550 lumens of light output for navigating streets and trails.
Pictured at left is the standard Blinder ARC, a 170 lumen output light that can run for up to 5 hours on steady and 9 hours on flash mode. It attaches via a replaceable silicone strap, and has the same extended on/off button push and USB charging interface as other Blinders. At right is the Blinder ARC 5.5 with a blinding 550 lumens of peak output (enough to full-on night mountain bike given the lumen rating of the old halogen and HID Lights we all used to 24hr race with but a decade ago) with up to 6 hours of steady and 9 hours of flashing run time. Given the bright beam, the loight throw has been made elliptical to illuminate what’s immediately in front of you along with what is further down the road. Both models are 100% waterproof, submersible even. Perfect to people with long commutes or looking to extend their rides well into the post-sunset hours.
