The Crowne Plaza London – The City has recently introduced extensive bike services and an exclusive bicycle package deal for hotel clients. Recognizing the increase in bike traffic in the city (bikes are now outnumbering cars!) the hotel now valet parks a visitor’s bike and will perform any needed cleaning or repairs too. For out of town guests, they can purchase a package deal with includes a rental bike, bike map and helmet, valet parking and other accommodations.
I remember my city hopping days attending critical mass rides or other bike related events and although I never had problems bringing my bike into a hotel room, it would have been nice to have all the amenities offered by The Crowne Plaza. It would have been worth any extra charge not to have to pack my bike for the Greyhound or plane and just rent one straight from the hotel. I don’t know what it would take to institute more services like this around the U.S., but it sure would be nice to see something like this spread.
As stated by the hotel manager, “Located in the City means we are seeing more and more cyclists in the area, the Superhighway route runs right past our doorstep and suited and booted cyclists are a common sight! To accommodate our guests’ needs is imperative if we are to maintain the hotel’s first-class offering. Whilst this may be seen as a gimmick, it doesn’t hide the fact that the bike is a more common sight on London’s roads and we need to embrace that.”
So true. If you know of similar services in the U.S., let us know in the comments.

No similar services that I have seen, but I buy a $60 craigslist bike and ride that thing around while I’m there. When I’m done, I gift it to someone who looks like they could use a bike.
Ace Hotel in Portland, OR has 3 loaner bikes available as first-come, first-served. They’re 3-speed IGH bikes. Not bad for getting around town.
The Liberty Hotel in Boston also has loaners.
I’ve only used Air B-n-B once, but I happened to find a place in Austin where the owners included the use of two cruisers which were nice to have. In my Air B-n-B browsing, I’ve seen a few places with a similar deal.
The Sofia Hotel in San Diego has “Urban Cruisers” available to all the hotel guests. It is a nice way to get around Downtown San Diego.
Came here to mention Ace Hotel… it’s the same hotel lampooned in Portlandia.
