Goodbye Fabio Rattazzi

1604406_10202927585780175_1073655652_n Goodbye Fabio. It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that after a long battle with illness that Fabio Rattazzi, co-founder of DZR Shoes, has passed on. He was a favorite person to run into at tradeshows, to talk bikes, and to talk fine food and travels. A world class observed trials rider in the ’80s, Fabio could outride most anyone no matter his illness. Watching him carve the San Francisco traffic was amazing, talking over coffee on the street and in the DZR offices something I won’t forget. Taken far too soon from us, such a gentle and wise soul. Jeff and I are going to miss you Fabio. So bummed.

    Hi guys,
it’s nice to hear that Fabio is going to be much missed also that far away from where he was from, that is, Ivrea a small town in north west Italy. I never was his closest friend and actually only had met him and hanged around with him for a limited spell back in late 90s early 00s,. That was indeed in Ivrea and included also going out on bike rides on the hills over there where he had no competitor, specially as soon as the road went downhill. Biking apart Fabio was known also for his sharp, cunning, (simply irresistible) sarcasm, something that I guess most of his closest friends over here will be missing a lot. Glad to have met you Ratto (Fabio’s nick name over here)

Spent a fantastic couple of days with Fabio over the course of the SSCXWC 2011 in SF. First a great ride in the East Bay hills, then he was in my qualifier group, and finally the race itself. A great guy who really made that weekend special with his humor and good spirit. I’ve got a great picture from the qualifier if you want it.
sad to hear of his passing, i was hoping we had a few more rides together.

I have had the pleasure of riding with Fabio on more than one occaision. He was always someone I would truly enjoy following on the trails. He was always such a smooth rider, and at the end of the ride I would always shake my head and wonder how he could ride a bike the way he did.

My friends nicknamed him the “rabbit” because I would try and chase him down at all costs. I never caught Fabio and I have the scars to prove it. He always had a great attitude about life and riding bike.

    Fabio you will be missed.

Ivrea was his native town. Ratto was a kind of celebrity here, because of his activity during the Carnival of Ivrea. Everybody that in the ’90 was a teenager in Ivrea knew him. Life can be sad. A lot of people will really miss you

Fabio was the one who taught me to love mountain biking and to live with a look of humor and a smile what life bring to us. It’s been a while since we last met, but he is and always will be present in my thoughts and in my heart. He will be sorely missed.
    Goodbye Fabio

Here in Canavese (the Ivrea area) was well known since his performances in the 80′s. I was not a close friend but I met him during one of my rides and it was like we had known from ages. Everybody here will miss him.
