Giro Surface and Reverb Helmets

Even the big boys have realized that urban riding is well beyond a fad, and that riders have different needs and wants than those of racers. Giro introduced the Surface with an integrated brim last year, with an expanded line up available for 2012. Available in three shell sizes, the Surface has a half dozen vents and internal air channels with an ABS shell and EPS liner, along with a one-handed fit adjustment system to cradle the back of your head.

The Reverb is going for a more classic style with a removeable cycling cap style visor and nine relatively large vents to make sure you don’t cook your head. The in-mold shell keeps the weight down, and like the Surface the Reverb is available in three shell sizes.

When are companies going to try to do their own thing? Bern made that exact lid like 6 years ago.

Bern helmets look cool but don’t fit my head. I wish they did, but they don’t. I tried one of these on and it was a much more comfortable helmet for my head. I would rather have it say Bern on the side, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Which one is a rip off? the Reverb? I think not. Bern helmets are huge..well the Surface is also, and more suited for batting wearing in a batting cage. Great if you have a huge melon, but not for me. The Reverbs are sweet, wear one if you commute and stop tying to look like some racing geek in a full kit while just going to work (been there, done that)…and drop all the gears, you just need one.
