Eisenherz Bikes Germany

Eisenherz builds singlespeed, fixed gear and “retro-makeovers“ from rare vintage parts, as well as brand new designer components.

According to Eisenherz’s Klaus Hogrebe, “Every bike is a design project. It’s not just a bike. Every part is assembled by hand, finished and fine-tuned by me. Beautiful vintage steel frames are combined with brand new parts, “new old stock“ or vintage parts – found at bike markets, old bikeshops or collectors. The final result is a unique bike that underlines the individuality of its owner in urbane life.”

  • Wow, with the shallow head tube angle and extreme rake of the fork, that bike’s gotta have like zero trail. Maybe it’s my eyes.

Anybody actually ridden one of these? I’m guessing with those thin tires and no weight on the front, it’s probably not a lot of fun to ride.

  • Very cool, the fork bends and lugs you get on these older refurb bikes are so much nicer than what you see out of most production bikes. You’ve got to go custom build to get that today.

Eisenherz really seems to like flat bars too.

  • @ Elliott

I’ve got an old Fuji touring bike with a similar setup. Low trail like that resists leaning input and relies more on handlebar input to steer the bike. Those same bikes often came with narrow handlebars so you have to steer deliberately.

They feel very different than a more modern high trail design you really just lean into to steer. I like them, mine’s is very stable and easy to ride hands free. I don’t know much about it’s high speed stability, but at low to normal speeds it’s a lovely setup.

  • those raked out forks are nice and plush. My concern would be maintaining enough chain tension on those angled dropouts. The builder may have found the magic rings combination to yield appropriate tension on the initial build, but there’s not likely enough dropout to adjust for chain stretch & tooth wear, or to change gearing. I speak from painfull experience on this one.
