This is an announcement I didn’t see coming. The rumors have been floated for years, but this time things are looking a bit more promising. Eastern Woods Research is back. Back in the mountain bike boom of the early-mid nineties, EWR was a brand ahead of its time in some ways, but with its own quirks for the riding style of the bikes. The frames themselves were a blend of what would become aggressive cross country geometry and a heritage of observed trials riding. Huh? Basically, the EWR bikes from ’95 don’t look out of place next to those of today with updated parts. Long toptubes, steep head angles, high bottom brackets and ultra-short chainstays were EWR’s trademark.
This post is showing our mountain roots, mainly mine (Brad) here. My first trials bike was a very early EWR mod frame that Jay rode in the World’s back in the early nineties and I smashed up for a while around ’98. Sometime around then I managed to pick up an EWR cross-country frame that saw many miles and my first 24hr race. Both hang in the bikeroom. Here’s to Jay and EWR’s future. I hope it makes a comeback.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! EWR is indeed back, the prototypes have been test ridden and given the nod of approval by Jay, and the first run of production bikes are under way. The updated Original Woods Bike frame will be available for purchase in the next month. Check out our website for more information – http://www.ewrbikes.com.
This is great news for the biking community. Eastern Woods Research is the way to go! Can’t wait to see what EWR has in store for us in the months ahead. Jay, Kenn and Don know their stuff….
Can’t believe I’ll finally be able to throw a leg over one of these creations of smooth movin’ steel! Dream come true, not only for me, but as well as for the rest of the cycling community, and anyone who knows anything about the OG of woods riding!
Gonna be proud poppa of brand new EWR OWB 106 M! whoot! Feel very fortunate. Thanks to you Jay, Don, and Kenn for bringin’ it on back.
Can’t wait to go out and slice some singletrack, lay down some lines through the pines, and hump some bumps at the local dj’s too!
I remember seeing an Eastern Woods Research bike at a Trials event in W.V. in like 1996? or so and I think it was Jay riding it. always wanted one and it’d be awesome if they come back. I’ve always kept my eye open to find a used one but have never seen one for sale.
