Earth Day Masquerade By-Cycle

Fish on a bikePPG needs mercury like a fish needs a bicycle!

This Earth Day, tell PPG executives that they need mercury like a fish needs a bicycle. Join other concerned Pittsburgh residents for the Earth Day Masquerade By-Cycle, a bicycle rally in fish costumes. PPG’s Natrium, WV chlorine plant dumps more mercury into the water than any other plant in the Ohio River Valley, and it’s completely unnecessary.

The company still uses mercury to make chlorine, a technique that was developed in the 1800s. Once released to the environment, mercury, a dangerous neurotoxin, endangers the health of marine animals and humans. When exposed to high amounts of mercury through eating seafood, people can experience neurological problems, like learning disabilities in children.

Prizes awarded for the best fish costume. Judging will be held at the Pittsburgh Zoo, at the conclusion of the ride. Can’t make a costume? No time? No skill? No worries. Let us know and we’ll provide one for you! Visit takeaction.oceana.org for more information.
