According to Prolly’s blog, the guy with the green helmet was spotted looking over a fairly well known messenger’s Cannondale track bike — and then he pulled a cordless drill from his bag and started to drill the u-lock key mechanism. As the video shows, this thief picked the wrong bike at the wrong time. Lucky the for him the guys giving him a lesson on why crime doesn’t pay have some morals of their own and let him go after a brief scuffle that he saw the worst of. The message is clear, “Don’t steal bikes, bro.”

They let him go because they were beating him and could have been charged with assault, not because they have some morals. Yes, even though he was stealing some bikes, bro, they could have been charged. Also, posting movies of yourself and comrades beating people takes about as much brains as that bike thief had ethics.
I’ve always dreamed about how the person/people that stole my first proper off-road worthy MTB would somehow end up in a horrific paralysing accident as the result of the front QR coming loose… it’s more there as a comfort thing in my head to somehow equate the anguish of having a bike stolen.
Sure ‘guy with green helmet’ is a total w***er, but I agree with dukie- it’s assault and whilst part of me feels like the thief deserves it, two wrongs still don’t make a right just because it’s about bikes.
Really not cool. They should’ve just detained the guy and called the cops…
ok, stealing bikes is not cool at all.
but attacking a guy who clearly is not able to fight back is just weak.
guess those hipsters were on some power trip.
hope that the video goes viral and they get their asses sued
I want to like this, but watch the assailants now get charged by their own evidence. For their sakes, I hope this is an act.
Folks are correct, it’s assault. No question. I personally do not endorse violence in anything but self-defense, just posting what is surely going to make the rounds.
Really.. belt the guy once and hold him down for the cops to come get. This is as bad as the u-lock/Asian guy incident. It just brings us all bad karma!
You people are such sheep, of course wait on government to do something, this is why our country is the way it is. I say the dude got what he deserved, this was this guys work bike…..in other words he can’t eat or pay rent without it. Im not saying eye for an eye or anything like that im just saying if criminals were dealt with this way more there would be less thieves.
Doesn’t take any balls to gang up on someone and beat him. The people involved were worse than the thief.
no bike is worth possibly killing someone. ever.
I remember a local case of vigilantism about 10 years ago where the vigilante hit the victim, and the victim fell and hit his head on the concrete and died. The vigilante was subsequently convicted of homicide.
HEY, DUMBSHITS:
you just photographed yourselves committing not just assault but battery — unless you are acting in IMMEDIATE self-defense you CANNOT hit another person for retribution! LIFE IS NOT AS IT SEEMS ON TV.
i’d take this video down because the guy who was hit has every legal right to have the guys who hit him charged! oh the irony…
yeah, i’m a lawyer…
um, I say, good for them. except for being stupid & putting it on YouTube.
ben stiller?
Bad move by putting it on you tube, BUT, they should have messed this guy up way worse than the video shows and I hope they did. “That’s what you get when you fucking a stranger in the ass.”
How would you have felt if the thief fought back?
Would that have justified the beat down?
How did these guys know the thief did or didn’t have any weapons.
I agree it was truly foolish to put this out on youtube.
Yes, no bikes are worth losing a life over but sometime emotions can get the best of all of us.
I don’t condone violence either but am I the only one that noticed they didn’t really hurt that guy at all? A couple taps to get the point across. The guy will probably barely be bruised but will get the point. Calling the cops doesn’t guarantee a thing in this situation. And getting sued? By a thief you probably wants to separate himself from the law as much as possible? As far as the video shows, the guy wasn’t hurt but will think twice before messing around with that cannondale bike again.
I can’t believe something like this would still happen today.
Only a true coward would ride a cannondale.
They shuld have beat his ass but definitely not busted out a video camera if they were going to. I dont care what you other commenters say, they should have taught him to never steal a bike again mainly because the cops werent going to since they didnt witness it. And thiefs be warned: Ill beat your ass if I catch you trying to steal my bike!
More power to the courier and his friend. There is NO Justice from the cops on bike theft. Just search 7000 stolen bikes recovered in Toronto Canada. That is how many bikes you have to steal before you get locked away.
zeke is a terrible name.
My name is cooler than yours.
Damn! I’m too late, it’s already down!
Ben Stiller? HAHAHAHA, that totally makes sense because those guys really are two dumb hipsters with poor vocabulary. I could imagine that’s how they would have beaten a bike thief up in Zoolander.
But seriously I agree with all you non-violence supporters. I’ve always dreamed of beating a bike thief up, but now that I’ve seen it, it just seems sad and cruel.
Zeke is a good name–not over used.
For those of you that missed the video, it’s up at ebaumnation-
