While surfing the web I came across this article in Bicycling on Cincinnati Bengals linebacker, Dhani Jones. Jones commutes to work on a fixed gear Surly, and says he wears Chrome knickers or snowboarding pants when it gets too cold.
Unfortunately, the Bengals are win-less at this point in the 2008 season, so let’s all cheer on our fellow bike commuter this Sunday as he tries to shut down Houston’s offense.

“you just go about your business”

Thanks for finding this story, guys. It’s very, very heartening to see someone who (1) obviously has plenty of money to spend on other transportation options and (2) has the cool/jock cred thing goin’ on, choose to go fixie — or, hell — choose to bike at all.
It can be a bit of a lonely existence for those of us who are outside of the core fixie community (by locale, in my case), so thanks, too, for the reminder that there are other “solo” riders out there spreading the fixie gospel without the support of that all-important, tight-knit community.
Why wasn’t he doing this when he was on the Eagles? We’ve got a pretty good fixed gear scene here in Philly.
I have friends that work at the store he got his Surly from. Riding a fixed gear was his trainer’s advice and he got really into it. So high-five to Jones’ trainer! My buddy said he’d never seen such a big dude on a fixey before and it was a lot of fun outfitting him with his new ride.
He’s a pro sports dude. He is used to things that are fixed!
(Uh, that was a joke)
