One of the causes of this is the lack of education for both cyclists and motorists. I see dozens of riders a day push their luck with traffic by splitting lanes, passing a line of cars on the right, ignoring traffic signals, etc. However, I also see dozens more motorists roll into crosswalks, make RTOR without stopping, excessive speeds, and not giving enough passing room, to name a few.

That said, I was hit by a motorists 2 months ago. I filed a claim with his insurance and they only paid out 50% of the value to replace the bike he destroyed. I now have to take him to small claims court to get the rest of my compensation. The sales are tipped in the favor of the status quo.

Cycling in Denver has blown the F- up! There's a lot of not-so-tempered riders out there. It's been amazing to see the change, but I'm not sure how many people are simply fair-weather riders. I'm thinking a lot of riders will go back into bike-hibernation, come winter.
