It is Tone again.
I just got word that Salt Lake City did or is doing Cranksgiving this year as well.
Oddly enough someone in Melbourne, Australia might be setting up one too! Do they even have Thanksgiving in Australia? I actually know a messenger in Melbourne, and I do not think he is the one organizing it, so I do not know what is up with Melbourne.
It should also be noted that Milwaukee should also be on the above list because they are hosting their first Cranksgiving on the 22nd as well. Here is a link to their flyer:
http://web.mac.com/stevenkasprzyk/Steven_Kasprzyk/sixpackslam.html

I feel compelled to say I am not thrilled to hear Milwaukee boasts having over $2000 in prizes. I have always felt Cranksgiving should be more about Charity than prizes. Of course it is always nice to have some prizes, but if there is ever the possibility of the prize values being worth more than or even coming close to what will actually be collected... doesn't that defeat the purpose? Here in York, PA I had one local bike shop owner offer to throw down prizes, but rather than adding more stuff to the small prize list Bianchi has come through with, I convinced the local bike shop to pledge a donation to the Food Bank instead. To me that makes a lot more sense than getting an extra $50-$100 prize for just one fast rider.
I apologize for the commentary, but I wanted to remind people not to loose focus on what Cranksgiving is all about. :)
Ride safe all,

Hey everyone.... this is Tone... the one, who started Cranksgiving up in NYC. It is GREAT to see so many cities starting up their own Cranksgivings! Even though I stopped messengering and moved to York, PA with my wife. in 2007... I am still organizing Cranksgiving! 2008 will be my second year hosting Cranksgiving in York, PA. 28 riders did it in York's 1st year! This year I am preparing for up to a possible 60. Less than 48 hours to the event right now and I still have to do some last minute preparations! Many sleep deprived nights in the ast few weeks. :)

Here are a couple of flyer & pledge form links for my event in York:
http://www.moon-shine.net/cranksgiving/2008YorkFlyer8.5x14.pdf
and
http://www.moon-shine.net/cranksgiving/CranksgivingPledgeForm.pdf

Everyone here should also know Ken Stanek (The "Crankster" who took over Cranksgiving from me in NYC) snagged Cranksgiving.org and I registered Cranksgiving.net (I think some unrelated dude bought up .com to just sit on it and commercialize it... whatever). Anyway, hopefully by next year both .org and .net will be united to form a single Cranksgiving site where all Cranksgiving organizers (Cranksters) can have a webspace to promote and report their event for each year it is organized in their city (potential example would be: "www.cranksgiving.net/LA/2009" or "www.cranksgiving.org/LA" etc...). I am also thinking of setting up a Yahoo Group so that all "Cranksters" can be a member and network to support and report on eachother's efforts. Sound cool? Every Cranksgiving organizer ,who hears about this, should e-mail me. That way I can compile a contact list of Cranksters and when things get set up I can get in touch with people. :)
Ride safe all... and HAPPY CRANKSGIVING DAY!
