As reported by Dave Moulton, well-known cycling advocate Edwin Gardner was killed riding his bike around 8am just over a week ago. Almost as a matter of course any more, the police have initially ruled that the driver is innocent and that Edwin ran into the side of Jeep that killed him, somehow then ended up getting run over. You can read the news report over at The Post and Courier, with the usual comments from the local geniuses advocating running over cyclists.

the page at post and courier went down…
“Gardner was not charged because the driver of the Jeep did not want to prosecute”
WTF
If the bike guy was in a car, wouldn’t the Jeep guy be charged with, basically, rear-ending him? It doesn’t matter if the bike guy was to the right, it was his lane. He was in front. If he was driving a car, the Jeep guy had no right to squeeze by him. Does that state say that bicycles are vehicles?
Is the Jeep guy some rich guy’s kid? Some politician’s kid?
tragic
why is it that people have such hatred for cycling and cyclists? surely its not just b/c of an encounter they may have had with a hostile courier or fixtrick kid. the comments on the charleston paper site are appalling. how is it that use of a bicycle somehow removes ‘human being’ from the mindset of these swine?
