I try to ride out of the way as well, but if they had been in the driving lane, which they have the right to do, and not the shoulder the driver would have been forced to slow down and might not have plowed into them.
Not trying to blame the cyclists at all, just wanted to point out the reporter’s assumption that they should be relegated to the shoulder which is incorrect.
