A reader who goes by the handle Bikeroo wrote to us with some unsettling news from Toronto.
A cyclist and a cabbie were in a confrontation and though the details of it still remain unclear, the cyclist was rammed by the cab into a pole and was left to die. Fortunately, doctors were able to save him but he lost his leg. The cabbie has been arrested and numerous charges have been laid, but for the most part it’s just a slap on the wrist. That’s the worst thing I’ve read all year. Just terrible. I can’t believe how some people get so upset over something on the road that they attempt to take another person’s life over it.
Just sick.
This right here is a good example of why you should always disarm these sorts of situations. We don’t know all the circumstances, but even if the cyclist was right, he’s now an amputee. Right or wrong, don’t let stupid arguments about traffic change your entire life.
yeah, and don’t turn your back on an angry motorist. you never know who’s behind the wheel. psychos.
To follow up,
the cabbie was denied bail: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2008/11/26/taxi-cyclist.html
Toronto is dire for riding, believe me. Dire for driving too, when I rent a car. It comes down to what the public makes the politicos make the cops do, and here the car is king.
I thought Canadians were all really nice and polite.
Tony, the fact that one kid in the USA killed tens of classmates doesn’t make all Amercian kids bad people.
Canada has a lot of people, from different cultures, ages, minds and feelings… you can not say Canadians are not nice and polite.
Oh by the way… the cab… is not canadian, obviusly is an immigrant… as almost everybody in Canada… as me or maybe you.
