Biking Through Hurricane Sandy


This first video is a bit of footage just as the storm started rolling in, when the streets were merely wet, the wind was gusty, and if you weren’t on a bridge then actually riding a bike in the mess was possible.

This second video is post-hurricane footage of someone who just needs to get somewhere and is willing to bike through a flooded street to do it. I’m quite impressed by his skills, though he’s probably got some hub repacking in his future. The firefighters waiting for him on the other side seemed pretty concerned/amused, however. Sign that guy up for cyclocross!

    People think I’m hardcore for riding through our wet Vancouver winters, but this is a whole new level of determination.

    That’s what I refer to as a “DUI special” given the way he has his handlebars set up chances are those hubs will never see a repack job in their future.
