Biking Rules PSA Competition

psa_header Biking Rules is a project of Transportation Alternatives and is a new street code of conduct for cyclists and by cyclists in NYC to promote safer travel for all of our road users. In truly kicking off this campaign, Biking Rules is hosting a Public Service Announcement (PSA) competition and film festival. Both still and film video submissions are being accepted through August 31st, with the best entrants shown in November 2009 at the Biking Rules Film Festival. Calling all media makers! Besides a worthwhile cause, there are a number of prizes to be had.

  • helmets do not rule – they make no difference at population level. They are personal choice, DO NOT promote helmets if you want to promote cycling.

  • ^Agreed!

Promoting helmets tends to steer people away from cycling because the general public doesn’t like them–geeky, hot, etc. And as the number of cyclists increases, we all become safer.

(Personally, I do wear a helmet, but I will never tell anybody else that they should get one.)
