i like what wendy said,
"then you assault a police officer with a bicycle."
count every time she was physically assaulted in that video. five times by the officers. do not say, "pushing is not assault," because i guarantee you, if you push an officer it is considered assault. obviously, that was not a wise move on the ladie's behalf.
however, all things considered, that felony charge of hers will probably be dropped (recklessness of the officers as made evident by the video). without the video evidence, she'd be screwed.

Wowzer: Which is why they were unleashing the LRAD on the first day - before any black bloc actions / damage (which I do not condone) went down, right? (Wonderful non-lethal audio weaponry that produces permanent ear damage and temporarily disrupt vision. First use against US citizens. We sold a bunch of them to China, by the way, so have fun with that, monks.)

I don't see how shoving a nightstick in the back of a girl who's already getting off her bike to facilitate safe forward movement is just "doing their jobs". Shove metal into my back unnecessarily and I assure you it will take every reserve of my will not to lash out in return. Seems more indicative to me of the general abuse of police power that colored the entire event. Something that was very clear to the Pitt students who were trapped in a stairwell and tear-gassed despite taking no part in the protest, or the numerous peaceful protesters who received heavy-handed treatment from the get go.

im no fan of the cops (a few bike related tickets and fines have soured me) but they were just doing their jobs. having been in pittsburgh and knowing that the cops were cracking down i just stayed on my stoop and filled my lungs with teargas. people were too eager to see/ encourage riots when they knew they shouldnt and its just dumb. moral to the story is listen to cops and dont put yourself in situations where you know youre gonna get in trouble.

Looked like an invitation to me; but an unfortunate situation. It's a lesson for all of us when it comes to interactions with police - do not interact - simply do what you've been told - never retaliate unless you're living the mandates of your manifesto and you're prepared to pay the price. I don't think the girl realized the price she was about to pay. She had no statement to make - it was only a reaction out of the frustration over the indignity of someone's lack of respect. Tsk, Tsk. Such is the hotheadedness of youth. When it comes to cops on the street we have no power. The cop was wrong to have shoved the girl - she was leaving the area as instructed. He completely provoked the situation and probably deserves some sort of reprimand. It was outrages, but I wouldn't want to live in a city without cops - best to respect them and avoid them. There's no police brutality when everyone is living on the right side of the law. Now, there's a question to ask: Is it getting better out there or worse? Are we afraid to ask the important questions openly, in public forums or only in private between ourselves? 1984 was 25 years ago; perhaps written before its time.
