This one has been making the rounds for a couple of weeks and shows a couple of useful lessons for those of us riding around and locking up fancy bikes we want to keep as our own. One, thieves are many times quick to back down and retreat when called out. Second, it shows just how easy it is to cut a cable lock, much like we talked about back in Urban Velo #22, Why Cable Locks Suck. Careful out there, and hope that this person is watching over your bike while you’re at work.

So the same bald headed dude who tried to steal it came back? Was this real or a demonstration?
What a bunch of wimps. It should have been called bike theif beatdown.I would have beaten that baldheaded slob to a pulp.
really.. you skinny hipsters need to learn a thing or two about the streets. you should have followed up on your lady friend’s lead and beaten the guy senseless. or at least, gotten out of her way so she could do it.
Don’t steal bike bro! (I Know, I know, but somebody had to say it.)
OK, it is a good point that thieves are many times quick to back down and retreat when called out. Its better to NOT beat people when possible, but I wouldnt have let him walk away. He better back down and wait patiently for the cops, or ild make sure hes too scared to try and steal another bike again ever. Not a threat, a promise
