Bike Advocacy in High Heels

heels.jpgIn Copenhagen, a city of 1.7 million, 36% of the population ride their bike to work or school each day. Copenhagen Cycle Chic hopes to inspire people in other countries to commute by bicycle, or lobby for better bike conditions. At the very least, they implore you to enjoy the view from their saddles.

  • do they import the girls to beautify other cities that want to increase cyclo-commuting? ’cause that might help, judging by the photos…

  • it seems really voyeuristic. i don’t think these people knew their pictures were being taken

  • pretty cool site. and as is noted a few pages deep into the blog, this is not done for voyeuristic purposes. the author comments on how each country has it’s own set of standards and principles. there are numerous female contributors to the site, as well.

“Those who merely slap the label of ’sexist’ on this blog don’t have a very basic understanding of what it’s all about and they judge others based on their own cultural norms. Without respecting the fact that people in other countries think differently.”

  • Love the photo of girls on bikes! I wish California would have more girls on their bikes. And there is nothing sexist with that. When I ride in heels, people always tell me how wrong that is, that I should have bicycle shoes on.

WTF is wrong with riding in heels!?!? Riding a bike is for anyone and everyone. Young and old. Poor and rich. The perception here in Cali is that you can only ride for sport and you have to dress in your sport attire. Bullsh*t!

Get out and ride because it’s more efficient than driving! Ride because it’s sexy! Ride naked! Ride in heels! Ride in your 3 piece suite! RIDE!

  • I still think those Danish guys are a bunch of nutcases … well in a good way!
Loads of their pics and a lot of more girls on bikes can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/bicyclegirls/

  • Cool site. Rather worrying statistics about the levels of obescity in the UK but unfortunately we’re a real car culture and getting worse.

‘The bane of lycra’ that made me laugh….but in a guilty way.

  • I agree with Enci – there’s absolutely no reason to classify bicycling as a sport only for a certain class of people. Certainly I see businesspeople in suits, women in heels, and so on bicycling. I’m going to be bicycling in a suit tomorrow, in fact – though I’m a little worried about scuffing my patent pumps…
