Bianchi Volpe in the House

I’ve got a brand new cross bike,
It’s 48°F and raining.
Highland Park, Mellon Park, Frick Park, Schenley Park.
Some things were just meant to be.
October 1st.

  • Yes, I’ve got one and it’s freaking great. I don’t really use it on trails, but with racing tires it’s awesome on smooth roads and greenways.

  • Can I have it? It looks too small, but I’ll adapt.

  • What pedals are those? They’re thin…in a durably sexy way.

  • Fyxation Mesa pedals. They’re my own, they didn’t come with the bike.

  • Sweet bike, Congratulations!

  • I would love to see an article detailing the bikes behind the people that are behind Urban Velo. Sorta like a stable show and tell or something.

  • Nice bike! A classic by now, and a perennial favorite of Sheldon Brown’s. Salsa Vaya, Salsa Casseroll, Surly Cross-Check, and All City Space Horse all in the same vein as this bike (that is, production, steel, Taiwan-sourced all-rounder bikes).

  • I just found this blog completely independent of this post but I just ordered a Volpe from my LBS. I can’t wait. I will be putting 28mm Hardcase tires on but I’ll keep the knobby ones in case I do any trails. Is that the stock saddle?

  • I have an 09 Volpe. Bought it for commuting. Owning it taught of me the existence of Cyclocross, and now I race every year. (Which is a big deal since I don’t have a competitive bone in my body.)

  • Looks like it will do pretty well for the front end load at tazza d’oro before a morning of cool mist and damp trails.

  • Hey just wanted to put in my two cents on the Volpe. My girlfriend grew tired of me always getting to have fun on my Surly LHT and on a whim bought last years purple Volpe from a local bike shop. I was able to get it with a honey brown brooks for $900 out the door. A month later without ever riding more than 50 miles at once she rode from San Fransisco back to LA with me in 7 days. The bike was perfect and now she is in love with it and commutes daily in Long Beach on it. Plus its tough and looks good
